In December, FoodPrints hosted 6 cooking classes supported by funding and pantry ingredients from Whole Foods Market, and fresh local produce from growers within the FRESHFARM network.

The Washington Post journalist, Nicole Asbury, visited two FoodPrints partner schools and profiles the program in an article that features Whittier kindergarteners in an immersive lesson on seasonality in the garden and Kimball 5th graders cooking Sweet Potato Quesadillas in their kitchen classroom.

In November 5th grade Kimball hosted VIP guests in a FoodPrints class: Congressman Jamaal Bowman of New York; Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers; and Jackie Pogue-Lyons, president of the Washington Teachers Union and staff of The SOZE Agency.

In FoodPrints gardens, our students learn through engaging with the natural world around them -- in lessons that build on topics and standards that students are learning in their regular classrooms.

FoodPrints teaching assistant and communications intern, Soleil, describes her joy of being introduced to the garden at School Without Walls Francis Stevens. She reflects on the importance of a garden as a space and details her first day with FoodPrints during orientation.

FoodPrints is the perfect antidote to a year of online learning. And this school year, FoodPrints will be a major part of several schools’ COVID recovery plans.

FoodPrints summer programming has given students an opportunity to rekindle the joy of learning through outdoor education. Having class in a garden during the school day allows students to engage, not just with the natural world around them, but also with their classmates and school community.
