Communications Team

Juliet GlassDirector of Communications
Juliet leads communications and marketing efforts for FRESHFARM. Although trained as a historian, her passion for food and cooking led her to work as a freelance food writer for over a decade. Then, driven by a desire for more real-world experience in food system work, in 2009, Juliet joined FRESHFARM, where she managed markets, programs, and led communications efforts. After seven years with the organization, Juliet shifted her focus to the Maryland nonprofit food space, where she spearheaded communication efforts for a statewide farmers market food access program. She is delighted to be back at FRESHFARM and is excited to connect shoppers, farmers, and funders with the mission of supporting sustainable and equitable foodways that work for everyone.

Molly Scalise, Deputy Director of Communications
Molly helps lead communications for FRESHFARM. She promotes the organization’s mission and programs, as well as manages some external partnerships. Molly has always been fascinated by food and the many-faceted issues it touches, from climate change to culture to public health. She has over a decade of nonprofit experience, and in 2015, she earned a Certificate in Sustainable Farming as a student in the Farmer Training Program at the University of Vermont. Molly joined the FRESHFARM team in 2016, where she has developed her passion for working with farmers and community members to build a strong and equitable regional food system. She is a graduate of Georgetown University.

Tess Kerkhof, Communications Coordinator
Tess has been passionate about food justice and food access for her whole life. She previously worked at Manna Food Center (MD) and Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food and Agriculture (DC). Her parents are organic farm operators and farmers market vendors, so FRESHFARM’s mission hits very close to home. Tess is excited to contribute to an equitable food system that serves all.

Renee Catacalos, Director of Strategic Investments
Renee brings extensive management, communications, and fundraising experience to her role as FRESHFARM Director of Strategic Investments. Most recently, she spent five years working in national food systems philanthropy with Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Funders, where she was Vice President for Strategy and Impact. She has previously worked for or served on the boards of several local food/agriculture organizations, including twice serving on the FRESHFARM board. Renee has been a champion of Chesapeake regional farms and food since her days as publisher and editor of Edible Chesapeake magazine and is the author of the book The Chesapeake Table: Your Guide to Eating Local. She is committed to developing strategic partnerships with philanthropy to build FRESHFARM’s capacity to address the most pressing regional food system challenges.

Lina Salazar, Senior Manager, Donor Engagement
Lina is responsible for developing and implementing the major gifts strategy across the organization, including cultivating relationships with current and prospective major donors, leading flagship fundraising events, and creating support communication products. Learning more about the food system, where food comes from, and who’s involved in each bite played a critical role in Lina’s recovery from a torturous relationship with food. This experience and the conviction that food can help build equitable communities led her to join the Community Foodworks board in 2018, and stay on the FRESHFARM board until 2023. Before joining the FRESHFARM team, she worked for over a decade in international development and as a health coach, running her own health coaching practice.
