Market Share Policies
Updated March 25, 2025.
For customers paying with credit/debit
When you sign up for a Market Share, you will enter your credit card information to check out, and then be charged weekly. You will not be charged for weeks that you put your subscription on hold, or unscheduled weeks of your subscription. If you have questions about payment or believe you have been charged incorrectly, please email marketshare@ffm.org.
For customers paying with SNAP/EBT
We offer the Market Share at a discounted price for anyone who receives SNAP. To receive the SNAP rate, payments must be made with an EBT card at market. SNAP customers will not and cannot be charged online, and cannot use credit cards, cash, market coupons, Senior FMNP, eWIC, or Produce Plus to pay for their shares.
Customers must pay for their share in full with their SNAP/EBT card at the time of pick-up. Customers may pay for up to two weeks of their share in advance if they would like.
If you would like to purchase the Market Share using SNAP, please select a Market Share- SNAP subscription in your desired size, or a Grain Share. Though you will not pay in advance, you must still create an account, select your preferred share, and check out so that we have your information, and you can edit your subscription throughout the season.
For customers paying with credit/debit
Yes! If you would like to skip a week of your Market Share, please place a hold on your subscription on your FRESHFARM Market Share account within the weekly ordering window, so that our farmers and team can plan accordingly. If you attempt to place a hold on your subscription after the ordering window has closed, we will not be able to refund you for your Market Share (you could send someone to pick up your share for you, though!)
You will not be charged for the weeks you put on hold, or for unscheduled weeks of your subscription.
You can place a hold on your subscription as far in advance as you like, and as many times as you like. You can also select a bi-weekly or monthly schedule when you register.

With that in mind, if you are scheduled to pick up a share but you (or a neighbor, friend, or family member) do not pick it up, it will be noted as an absence. Customers will be removed from the program for the season after 3 absences, to make room for new active participants.

If you do not pick up your scheduled Market Share, and did not place a hold on your subscription for that week in advance, you will still be charged full price. We are not able to “make-up” your share by moving your pickup to a different location. Please refer to the “Can I skip a week” section for details about skipping.

You are welcome and encouraged to have a friend, family member, or neighbor pick up your Market Share on your behalf as an alternative to skipping a pick-up. If you pay for your share with SNAP, please ensure that your proxy has access to your EBT card number and PIN to process payment at-market.
We source from small and mid-sized family-owned farms in the Mid-Atlantic. In 2023, 24% of our farmers identified as Black and Brown, and 29% were first-generation farmers.
We tend to work with smaller farms which face cost and administrative barriers to becoming USDA organic certified. While some of our farmers may not be certified, they tend to use responsible practices. The sourcing for Market Share varies week to week, but the majority of the produce in our bags is sourced from the following farms. Their farming practices are linked.
Pleitez Produce Farm
Barajas Produce
Quaker Valley Orchard–scroll to the bottom for the section titled “How our Produce is Grown”
Mickley’s Orchard
If you received damaged or spoiled produce, please let us know via email at marketshare@ffm.org. Please include a picture of the damaged produce if possible, and we will try our best to address the issue.
As a Market Share subscriber, you will receive a weekly email that includes a list of items in the bag, recipes, and storage tips. Generally you will receive this email the day before your Market Share pick up, or the morning of. We try our best to share the contents of your bag as soon as we know we have it, but we work with farmers week to week, so it is often last minute.
For the number of items and descriptions of the Family and/or Personal Share, please refer to our Market Share page.
The produce in your Share will fluctuate week to week and is based on what is in season. Click here to see what types of produce you can expect during each month of the season. Though it is not guaranteed, you will likely receive many of the items listed under “Good Supply” multiple times, and “Limited Availability” and “Specialty Items” often, though less frequently.
Our procurement team works hard to curate Market Share bags that are widely- enjoyed and generally easy to cook with, while still including some lesser-known or speciality items once in a while. However, we do not offer the option to swap or add produce to the share. If you have strong vegetable preferences, or dietary restrictions the Market Share may not be the right program for you.
We operate rain or shine! We do not close down due to weather conditions unless dangerous conditions are predicted. In the event that we are forced to close, we will communicate in advance via email and/or text to Market Share members.
Please email marketshare@freshfarm.org with any questions, or call 202-391-7353 Ext. 5. We do our best to respond within 24 hours, Monday-Friday.
