Libertas Estates and Maryland Duck Company is a 127-acre farm in Mt. Airy, Maryland, owned by Errol and Berenice Rushovich. The farm has been in existence for at least 150 years and was previously a dairy farm. The current owners are a husband-and-wife team. There is a stone farmhouse, bank barn, milk house, and duck-rearing shed on the property. Currently, they have a 10-acre vineyard, producing four varieties of wine grapes, cropland, and started a duck-raising program, Maryland Duck Company, in 2021.
They are located in Frederick County three miles from Liberty Town and 14 miles from Frederick, Maryland. This region is favorable to vineyards. They are growing grapes carefully chosen to match the geography and climate. The wine you drink is a culmination of years of history in the land, the climate of the year, and the decisions of the winemaker. This all contributes to the unique aromas, mouth feel, and taste of the wine.
Their ducks are free-range and raised antibiotic and hormone-free. Duck have a robust flavor and succulent texture, and are lean and rich in vitamins and iron. Duck eggs are generally larger and richer than chicken eggs, with more yolk than white. They are ideal for special occasions and excellent for baking, adding flavor, and improving texture. They also contain more antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin A and protein.
