The FRESHFARM Mosaic Market Is Growing!
Heads up, Dupont Circle! We are expanding the FRESHFARM Mosaic Market and aiming to transform it into your Northern Virginia doppelgänger!
Located in the Mosaic District in Fairfax, Virginia, the farmers market operates year-round on Sundays (9am to 2pm). We’re debuting this exciting development on August 6th, 2023, the first day of National Farmers Market Week, a celebration that highlights the vital role farmers markets play in our nation’s food system.
FRESHFARM Mosaic Market Adds 15 Additional Farmers & Producers
The newly expanded market footprint will extend from District Avenue onto Strawberry Lane and allows us to grow the market by 30%, increasing the vendor line-up from 45 farmers and producers to almost 60 every week.
The expanded market will span the equivalent of three city blocks, further enriching its already robust offerings and putting the FRESHFARM Mosaic Market in the running to be the largest farmers market in Northern Virginia. Shoppers can expect a wide array of fresh fruits and vegetables, artisanal baked goods, pastured eggs and meats, locally roasted coffee, prepared foods, and much more.
Creating a Vibrant and Equitable Farmers Market in NOVA
Since taking over the operation of the Mosaic market in 2019, FRESHFARM has been dedicated to fostering a vibrant and inclusive marketplace that connects residents with local farmers and producers. And as with all other FRESHFARM outlets, Mosaic offers the FreshMatch incentive program, which provides a dollar-for-dollar match on all federal benefits (SNAP and Senior and WIC FMNP) spent at the market, helping all shoppers, regardless of income, take home more fresh and nutritious produce and local foods.
Rebecca Chávez, Director of Agricultural Programs at FRESHFARM, shared her excitement about the expansion and the organization’s ongoing partnership with EDENS, the owner and operator behind Mosaic. “The expansion into Strawberry Lane means we can connect even more farmers and producers with the community while also providing local residents with a wider variety of fresh and healthy options,” Chávez noted. “We hope that a bigger market will also grow participation in FreshMatch, which both helps shoppers take home more nutritious produce and local foods while creating and sustaining new revenue streams for local growers.”
