Since launching our first farmers market in 1997, FRESHFARM has grown into the third-largest farmers market network in the country and the largest in the region. Our markets are essential to building a strong and resilient local food system, creating economic opportunities for farmers and local businesses, fueling local economies, serving as community hubs, and providing vital food access for everyone.
Join the Celebration
Each of our farmers markets is celebrating National Farmers Market Week (NFMW) in its own unique way. We’re kicking off the week at our flagship FRESHFARM Dupont Circle Market this Sunday (August 4) with a demo by Ana’s Twist (9:30-11:30AM), where Ana will be crafting traditional Ecuadorian sorbet with a blend of locally sourced fruit! Come by to join in and taste the delicious results. At our other markets, you can look forward to live music, produce tastings, scavenger hunts with chances to win tater tot temporary tattoos, kid-friendly activities, and more. Find your market.
Introducing Words To Eat By
In honor of NFMW, we’re excited to debut a newly revised edition of Words To Eat By, our glossary of terms commonly used at farmers markets and beyond. Originally published in 2006 and revised in 2012, this updated version has been expanded to help you make informed food choices, connect with the people who grow and produce your food, and deepen your understanding of our regional food system.
Starting this week, you can pick up a printed copy of Words To Eat By at any of our markets—just visit the FRESHFARM info tent to get yours! (While you’re there, don’t forget to collect your Summer Traveler loyalty stamp for a chance to win a $100 market gift card.)
