Weekend warriors, grab your reusable bags: you have a new farmers market to explore!
FRESHFARM and EDENS are thrilled to announce the opening of FRESHFARM Union Market District. Debuting on September 17th, this Sunday farmers market will be open year-round from 9am to 1pm at 1309 5th St NE, Washington, DC, at the Plaza at The Dock, adjacent to Union Market.
New Farmers Market Will Complement Union Market District’s Robust Retail Offerings
The new farmers market will host twelve farmers and producers each week, offering shoppers a robust mix of fresh fruits and vegetables, pastured meats, artisan baked goods, small-batch roasted coffee and blended teas, prepared foods, and local flowers. In addition, FRESHFARM will host an additional five rotating farmers/producers, bringing specialty items such as Washington, DC distilled liquor, handmade biscuits, and the like. FRESHFARM’s farmers and producers will complement the already incredible Union Market District retail and culinary offerings.
Strengthening Our Partnerships
This new market marks an exciting new phase in the ongoing partnership between FRESHFARM and EDENS, the driving force behind the Union Market District and owner and operator of the Union Market food hall. Since 2019, FRESHFARM has operated the bustling farmers market at Mosaic District, which is also owned and operated by EDENS.

New Market Will Expand Food Access In The Neighborhood
As with all other FRESHFARM outlets, FRESHFARM Union Market District will offer the FreshMatch incentive program, which provides a dollar-for-dollar match on all federal benefits (SNAP and Senior and WIC FMNP) spent at the market, helping all shoppers, regardless of income, take home more fresh and nutritious produce and local foods. Nick Stavely, FRESHFARM Director of Incentive Programs, notes: “Many community members in the surrounding neighborhoods experience food insecurity, and FreshMatch will remove economic barriers to this new farmers market. Shoppers using nutrition benefits can take home more nutritious produce and local foods while creating and sustaining new revenue streams for local growers.”
